Profile
Nigel Churchouse is an expert craftsman and lecturer.
His career commenced with a city & guilds apprenticeship
to Advanced Craft Level, gaining several distinctions. Nigel
worked throughout the UK until 1992, when he founded “Churchouse
Crafts”; a company specialising in bespoke furniture. He
developed a reputation for combining traditional skills with
modern, contemporary designs.
In 2002, he won the Furniture & Cabinet
making national award.
The winning design was the inspiration for his publication
in the Furniture & Cabinet making magazine, and this
article lead to his contribution in several books.
Personal interest slowly changed the focus of Nigel’s’ work
from bespoke furniture making towards conservation and restoration,
and lead to the establishment of “Churchouse
Conservation and Restoration.”
Striving to broaden his knowledge
further, he gained a Master of Arts [MA] in the conservation & restoration of fine
furniture from Buckingham & Chilterns University, UK.
He has worked on several prestigious
conservation projects including Kentchurch Court, Herefordshire
(where the documentary series “Regency House Party” was
filmed), the Downs & Weald
Open Air Museum, & West Wycombe Church.
In 2002, Nigel was appointed as lecturer
in furniture making & design
at Bridgend College, South Wales. He delivers the theoretical & technical
component of the Foundation Degree for Contemporary Furniture
and the National Diploma in 3D design.
His lecturing expertise and knowledge as a skilled practitioner
resulted in a demand for personalised, short courses in conservation
and restoration, and cabinet making.
These are delivered in his workshop, located in the old market
town of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, West Wales.
